The collaboration between Frank Gratkowski and Georg Graewe goes back to 1990.
Since then, Gratkowski has been a regular member of Graewe's Grubenklang
Orchester. Both have been working as a duo since 1992 and a CD "VicessEtudes"
was released on Random Acoustics in 1992 - it is unfortunately out of print at
this time.
In 1996, Gratkowski and Graewe made a very successful tour in the US, and in
1997 the Georg Graewe Quartet (with Kent Kessler and Hamid Drake from Chicago on
bass and drums, and Gratkowski on Reeds) was founded. In the same year, the
Quartet recorded a CD (Melodie und Rhythmus) for Okka Disk. Besides the
Quartet, Gratkowski and Graewe still work as a Duo and even more often they
extend the Duo with musicians like the German drummer Paul Lovens (CD "Quicksand") or more recently with bassist John Lindberg from the US (CD "Arrears").
